Tibet: Monasteries and Mountains

Since time immemorial the Tibetan theocracy forbade almost all outside travelers and the decree was easily enforced due to a rugged environment and limited accessibility through the high Himalayas. But in 1984 it was made accessible to travelers and possible to explore this rich and ancient civilization. The Tibetan plateau has its own style of beauty with snow-capped mountains to the south, glacier fed rivers, huge lakes and brown desert-like landscapes.
