Langtang Adventure Trek 13 Days
DAILY DEPARTURES OCTOBER THROUGH MAY
Langtang is located northwest from Kathmandu, in the central Himalayas of Nepal. Langtang is a village as well as the name for this region's national park. Trekking through the scenic Langtang Valley directly under the mount Langtang Lirung rising 7245 M. above sea level and between the towering snowcapped peaks is a breath taking experience.
The Langtang National Park features a complex topography and a varied climate. As a result, a wide spectrum of vegetation is flourished here. These include small areas of subtropical forest below 1,000 m., temperate oak and pine forests at mid-elevations, and alpine scrub pastures giving way to bare rocks and snow.
Oak, fir, blue pine, chir pine, maple, hemlock, spruce and various species of rhododendron grow in the forests. Approximately 25% of the forest covered area of the park provides habitat for a wide range of animals. Red panda, Himalyan black bear, musk deer, pika, muntjack, wild dog, Himalayan Tahr, ghoral, serow, rhesus monkey, and the common langur are among the many species. In the spring and autumn the Trisuli-Bhote Koshi rivers form important route for migrating birds between India and Tibet. These are the species of animals founded and recorded in the Langtang National Park, but we will not be able to see them all, particularly the black bear and Red Panda, unless we go on an expedition into the jungle looking for them.
Several ethnic groups also inhabit the park and influenced the region's natural environment over many centuries. The inhabitants within and outside the park boundaries are dependent on the natural resources here including lumber, pasture, fire-wood, and bamboo for basket weaving.
Trekking peak, such as Ganjala Chuli and Yala Peak can be scaled during the trek here. These are perfect practice peaks for those looking to master their climbing skills. Trekking peak permits are easy to obtain and costs about US$300. Trekking crossing the Ganjala Pass and getting through Helambu region or vise versa is possible by starting in October. Later than mid-November is dangerous to cross the pass. This is a very scenic and adventurous trek if done in early fall season. Our trek programs in the region range from 10 days and up. Please inquire for details.
