Destination: The Golden Triangle of Chiang Rai
Activities: Visit temples, historic places, the Golden Triangle at the Mekong River, hill tribe villages, Doi Wawi Tea Estate, scenic river trip by long rail boat.

Best Season: September to March is the cool and dry weather best season. However, Chiang Rai can be visited year round.

Itinerary:
Day 1 The Golden Triangle area of Chiang Rai


On arrival Chiang Rai Airport, meet and transfer to the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos borders meet at the Mekong River.
We will visit the Opium Museum, the big Buddha image overlooking the river valley, and enjoy the scenic view of the Mekong River at the triangular border area from the Thai side. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Then, continue journey to Ban Lorcha village of Akha people to see their way of life. We will see their sacred area for spirits, blacksmith, welcome dance, house, weaving and display of their artifacts, and drive to Huai Khum Village Resort at the bank of Mae Kok River, the only boutique as well as eco resort in the Mae Kok River valley, is truly a paradise. Remaining time, swim and relax at the pool.
Evening-dinner with Lahu folk song and dance show. Meals: BLD.

Day 2 Doi Mae Salong Scenic and Wat Thaton

Early morning breakfast and travel by long tail boat upstream, and drive to Doi Mae Salong, a Yunan Chinese Village, formed some four decades ago by migrant Chinese from Yunan, who have turned Doi Mae Salong of northern Thailand into a famous tea estate, where some of the finest tea is produced for the local and international markets. In addition to the natural beauty of these hills, tea plantation, and various other farming practices complement the scenery.

We will visit its local temple, observe the rural way of life in the northern hills of the golden triangle and enjoy the spectacular scenery from various viewpoints. Then, drive to a tea estate to taste the fresh cut tea. If you enjoy tea, this is one of the best places to get your favorite pack. Lunch served en-route at local restaurant. After lunch, drive to visit Wat Thaton to pay a visit and enjoy the beautiful valley before returning to Huai Khum Village Resort for overnight. Meals: BLD.

Day 3 Mae Kok River Excursion and flight to Bangkok

Breakfast at resort, and travel by long tail boat down the scenic Nam Mae Kok River to Ban Ruamit. Along the way, we will visit hill-tribes and scenic spots where possible. Lunch served en-route at local restaurant, and drive to Chiang Rai Airport for a flight to Bangkok. End of tour service. Meals: BL.

Bangkok to Chiang Rai Flight Connections:
Thai Airways, Orient Thai Airlines, and Thai Air Asia have flights to Chiang Rai.
The latter two airlines are budget carriers. Booking far in advance is necessary to secure good deals.
